A truly special pair of mid-1950 senior cords from Rensselaer, IN dated 1956. For those unfamiliar with the senior cord trend, this dated back to the early 1900s in Purdue, IN where the senior class bought a bolt of corduroy fabric and had pants made, and used these pants as a blank canvas to showcase their creative skills; adorning them in cartoons of the time, friends names, caricatures, ect. Fast forward to the 1930s-1940s this trend took off state-wide, but none compared to those at Purdue, and continued up until the 1970s.

This pair in particular are quite unique; from Rensselaer High school ( just shy of an hour from Purdue ) which are not only hand drawn, but hand painted as well. The artistry used to draw and paint the cartoons, and even more so the portraits is quite incredible and showcases their talents in the arts. The high school name is in block print letters on one side seam, with the mascot 'Bombers' on the opposite, as well as friends names clustered together on the rear with a cartoon dog in clothing holding a paint brush to look like he is the one writing the names. From the infamous cartoon characters like Donald Duck and Minnie Mouse, to the girl in marching band uniform, and stylish portraits of grinning ladies, this pair really captures the true style and heart of the original senior cords. Suspender buttons inside the waistband with snap at waist and talon zip fly.

Condition: One snap at top of zipper inside doesn't work, but is not needed whatsoever as there is a waist button and zipper. As you can imagine due to the nature of these being hand painted, these were not washed and should not be to preserve the integrity of them. They were steam cleaned. Very small pen marks as shown, but they present like new and beautifully
